QuayQuip fenders and storm bollards for the Port of Tauranga, New Zealand

QuayQuip fenders at Tauranga, NZ

Late in 2012, the Port of Tauranga in New Zealand took delivery of QuayQuip fender and mooring systems for the second Sulphur Point Wharf extension.

Sheltered by Matakana Island and Mount Maunganui, the Port of Tauranga is the only all-weather natural harbour between Auckland and Wellington. It handles more tonnage than any other port in New Zealand and is part of a developing regional port network. The Sulphur Wharf extension will allow the container port to receive Post-Panamax vessels up to 105,000 DWT.

QuayQuip designed three kinds of fender system for the project. Thirty sets of twin QCN 700 Cone Fender systems had to be closely aligned to the jetty’s existing cantilever piling. The panels were 1.1m wide by 4.1m high.

New Turning Dolphin for Holmsgarth, Scotland

Holmsgarth Turning Dolphin thumb

QuayQuip has recently upgraded the Holmsgarth Ferry Terminal, Lerwick, on the Isle of Noss in the Shetland Islands, following winter storm damage and the introduction of the RoRo freight vessel MV Hildasay earlier this year. Holmsgarth serves ferry routes to Aberdeen and Kirkwall, and to Hanstholom in Denmark.

The design process began with a detailed calculation of the optimal fender performance for a midship impact at any given radial angle. The rebuilt central structure incorporates the remaining capacity of the previous dolphin into a series of new piles and a concrete cap. Read more…

QuayQuip-PEM upgrades Ferry Berth at Tsawwassen, BC

Fender system at BC Ferries Tsawwessen terminal

The first of many large projects for the QuayQuip/Marener partnership is a complete upgrade of Tsawwassen Berth 4 in just outside of Vancouver, British Columbia. Tsawwassen is part of the BC Ferries network, with services to Vancouver island and mainland destinations. The renewed facility will receive the latest and largest vessels in BC Ferries’ fleet.

QuayQuip are delighted to work with BC Ferries, with whom we share the philosophy of ‘safety first’.

A total of nine monopile dolphins are both fitted with high-performance, dual QCN Cone Parallel Movement Fender (PMF) systems which incorporate QuayQuip’s 4th generation technology in bearings and torsion arms. Each system is some 8 metres high and provides ultra low reaction which aids berthing times and passenger comfort. QuayQuip also provided QME Element based conventional fenders for the turning dolphins (roundheads) and the wingwalls (end fenders).
