Last August we published an article about the QuayQuip/Marener partnership’s upgrade of Tsawwassen Berth 4, near Vancouver in British Columbia. The berth is now hard at work receiving BC Ferries vessels on their way to and from destinations across the province.

QuayQuip-PEM to supply Marine Atlantic terminal in Nova Scotia

Marine Atlantic Inc. is a federal Crown corporation that reports to the Canadian Parliament through the Minister of Transport. The Corporation provides a constitutionally mandated passenger and commercial marine transportation service between the Island of Newfoundland and the Province of Nova Scotia. Its mission calls for safety first and also stresses environmental responsibility, reliability, courtesy and value for money.

Marine Atlantic provides two ferry services. The first operates every day of the year on a 96 nautical mile route between Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador and North Sydney, Nova Scotia. The second is a 280 nautical mile, tri-weekly ferry service between Argentia, Newfoundland and Labrador and North Sydney, Nova Scotia, starting in mid-June and closing late September.

QuayQuip-PEM upgrades Ferry Berth at Tsawwassen, BC

The first of many large projects for the QuayQuip/Marener partnership is a complete upgrade of Tsawwassen Berth 4 in just outside of Vancouver, British Columbia. Tsawwassen is part of the BC Ferries network, with services to Vancouver island and mainland destinations. The renewed facility will receive the latest and largest vessels in BC Ferries’ fleet.

QuayQuip are delighted to work with BC Ferries, with whom we share the philosophy of ‘safety first’.

A total of nine monopile dolphins are both fitted with high-performance, dual QCN Cone Parallel Movement Fender (PMF) systems which incorporate QuayQuip’s 4th generation technology in bearings and torsion arms. Each system is some 8 metres high and provides ultra low reaction which aids berthing times and passenger comfort. QuayQuip also provided QME Element based conventional fenders for the turning dolphins (roundheads) and the wingwalls (end fenders).
