QuayQuip in Scotland: a port on every coast

Last year QuayQuip launched a campaign to lead the Scottish fendering market. New orders show that the strategy is well on its way to success.

Following a string of orders for Scottish ports in 2011 and 2012, QuayQuip has recently won six more, on every Scottish coastline from the very south of the country to its northernmost islands. All are due for delivery in 2013 and the total value is roughly €2 million. Read more…

Last August we wrote about a new coal facility at Puerto Neuvo in Colombia. Thanks to new video and images you can see the berth in operation.

The vessel shown is the Casta Diva, a 178,000DWT bulk carrier, as she berths alongside Prodeco’s latest direct-loading facility. Prodeco is part of the international mining corporation Glencore Xstrata. Read more…

More QuayQuip cone fenders for Malaysia

Northport is one of the principal sections of Klang Port, Malaysia. As part of its development programme, an order was placed at the end of 2012 for QuayQuip QCN 1150 Cone Fender systems. The systems, including UHMW-PE faced panels 1.9m wide by 5.5m high, plus chains and fixings, were delivered in April 2013.

Orders roll in for QuayQuip Wheel Fenders

2012 was QuayQuip’s best year yet for wheel fender orders, and 2013 could be busier still.

Last year, the historic South African naval base of Simon’s Town took delivery of fourteen sets of QuayQuip QWF wheel fenders: twelve for the drydock and one at each corner of a ship syncrolift.

Later in the year, another two QuayQuip wheel fenders were installed at the newly constructed Damen Shipyards Sharjah FZE…

QuayQuip Cell fenders for new Chile coal port

QuayQuip QCL Cell Fenders are hard at work protecting the new Muelle de Carbon (coal port) at Isla Riesco in southern Chile.

Part of a $530 million mining development project aimed at bolstering Chile’s independence from energy imports, the $50 million port at Isla Riesco will ship up to six million tonnes of coal every year from three new mines.

Although our last report about Barrow Island, West Australia, was some time ago, work at the LNG facility has continued apace.

The site’s latest QuayQuip fender installation serves vessels calling at the Materials Offloading Facility (MOF). Due to the wide range of impact conditions – the berth serves a variety of heavy lift ships approaching either stern- or side-on – a slightly unconventional dual QCN Cone fender design was called for.

QuayQuip facings for Kenya’s latest naval vessel

The Kenyan Navy’s latest vessel, the KNS Jasiri, has docked in her new home port of Mombasa at a berth equipped with QuayQuip fender facings.

At QuayQuip’s advice the jetty’s existing timber facings were replaced by piles installed in front of the quay structure, protected by machined UHMW-PE facings. QuayQuip supplied 41 sets of panels with 6000×300mm contact areas, each 100mm thick.

QuayQuip protects London’s new cable car

In 2011, QuayQuip was challenged by Transport for London to design a floating impact protection system for the new Emirates Air Line – an ambitious cable car route across the River Thames.

Working in close collaboration with the main contractors, Mace, and consultants Buro Happold and Royal Haskoning, QuayQuip had to prepare a floating barrier capable of safely dissipating large energies, and have it ready for delivery in time for the cable car entering service by summer 2012.

New systems for Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo

QuayQuip will supply the Port of Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo, with a comprehensive upgrade to its fendering and mooring equipment.

Working with contractors SAIPEM (part of the ENI group) QuayQuip will deliver 54 sets of QCN 1400 Cone Fender systems with 3.45m panels. Related orders include Tricorn Bollards rated to 150t, chosen for their superior line angle characteristics, and a full set of access ladders.

Pointe Noire has been a busy port since its opening seventy years ago. The first deepwater port south of Dakkar, it lies 150km North of the mouth of the River Congo, and connects to a transnational rail network via a nearby terminal. The port serves container ships, oil tankers and bulk carriers.
